Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Shahdol
In order to achieve the goal of being a developed nation, our country attain the position by which it can able to provide better shelter, food and employment for its citizens. On knowing those facts very well, both the state and central governments are offering better scheme and plans for improving the living standards for the citizens. One among those schemes is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, by which pucca houses will be constructed at the affordable rates for the homeless people who are from the weaker class of the society.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)
Food, water and house form the three basic requirements for a normal living of a common man. In our country more than twenty five percent of the population is living under BPL. The people belonging to SC category are the highest among those in BPL in both rural and urban areas.
In order to provide housing to deserving people, PMAY was launched by PM in 2015. It is started with a target to provide quality houses to more than two crore people across the country before the end of 2022.
This scheme tries to provide houses mainly to those belonging to the weaker section of the society. However, this scheme is extended to some other groups. Women from any section of the section can avail the benefits of the scheme. People from BPL and SC/ST are also eligible to apply for PMAY.
Highlights of the scheme
- Subsidy amount up to two and half lakhs will be provided by the government to the beneficiaries. The amount will be credited directly to their bank accounts. Further, subsidy will be provided for the interest incurred from the loans applied under this scheme.
- Houses are constructed using eco-friendly methods. Female applicants will be given the first priority during allocation of houses. NRI’s can also avail this opportunity.
- It will support construction of houses of sizes up to a maximum of thirty meter square. The houses should be built according to the rules of NBC and BIS.
Distribution among states
Around three thousand nine hundred cities are selected across the country under this scheme. Tamil Nadu tops the chart with more than six hundred and fifty cities getting benefitted, whereas only one city is selected in UT’s of Andaman and Nicobar, Daman and Diu.
PMAY in Shahdol
Madhya Pradesh has got more than three hundred and seventy five cities selected under PMAY. Shahdol is a district located in MP. The CM of the state has launched PMAY in shahdol to provide houses to more than thirteen thousand people. In shahdol, nearly ten percent of the people live in slums.
The beneficiaries will receive a sum of rupees one and half lakhs in their bank accounts to build their houses in their land. The amount will be provided on an installment basis. In first three installments forty thousand will be provided. In the last installment, twelve thousand will be provided for toilet construction and eighteen thousand as NREGA.
