Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Nagpur
Well, many might aware about the implementation of the PM’s awas yojana which also be referred as the ‘housing for all’ introduced in 2015 by the PM of India Mr. Modi with the mission of providing affordable houses for all the poor people who are homeless across the nation.
Recently, the scheme gets introduced in the Nagpur city with variety of plans. As the first phase of the Awas Yojana is getting nearer its deadline, the nation is about to experience the reports for the first phase of the scheme soon.
Shelter, food and water are three things needed for a common man to survive. Being the second largest country in terms of population, India has more than two million homeless people according to 2011 Census. Around seven hundred million in the country do not have proper toilet facilities.
People who are from EWS and LIG are the ones who cannot afford to build their own houses. More than twenty five percent of BPL population in India is from SC/ST. They also find difficulties in building their homes.
In order to help everyone from EWS and LIG, SC/ST to build their own houses, the PM launched this scheme in 2015. It is launched with a mission to provide houses to more than two crore people within 2022 and the entire scheme is planned to be implemented in three phases with separate targets and deadline.
More than three thousand five hundred cities are selected across the country for implementing this scheme. Tamil Nadu is the most benefitted state, whereas Andaman & nicobar, Daman and Diu have the least number of cities selected under this scheme.
People can apply to avail funds under this scheme is they fulfill any of the following criteria.

· Income less than six lakh for LIG benefits
· Income below three lakh for EWS benefits
· Should not own a house
· SC/ST people
· Not a beneficiary of any other housing scheme

Highlights of PMAY
- Subsidy ranging up to two and half lakh rupees will be given to the beneficiaries directly through their bank accounts. Women will be given first priority in allocation of funds.
- Eco-friendly houses will be built under this scheme. The interest for housing loans availed under this scheme will have a subsidized interest to the beneficiaries.
Implementation of the PMAY scheme in the Nagpur City
Around hundred and forty two cities are selected in Maharashtra under PMAY. Nagpur is one of the cities chosen in the state. With a population of around twenty five lakh people, it ranks as the third largest city of the state.

The Municipal Corporation of Nagpur (NMC) and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) have joined hands to provide houses for the people from the slums. They started their demand survey last year. They are trying to provide houses by utilizing PMAY along with SBUP and SRA launched by the previous Government at the centre.
NMC has planned to provide several thousand affordable flats for the needed people across the city. NIT on the other hand has planned to give ten thousand flats. Sixty percent of NIT flats will be provided to LIG and the remaining will be given to EWS. NIT is under the process of finding suitable lands to start the construction.
