Ujala Yojana | Free LED Bulb Scheme

The Maharashtra government partnered with the Central government has launched a new scheme to provide lights in every home across the state of Maharashtra. The state government named the scheme as Ujala Yojana where the government will give away free LED bulbs to each home where it is needed the most. The project aims to bring down the energy consumption rate by proving LED bulbs to every home.

Ujala Yojana / Free LED Bulb Key Features

  • The Maharashtra Government has declared to give away LED bulbs for free to the millions of homes in the state. The bulbs will consume less energy and brings down the net electricity consumption.
  • The bulbs will be sold at very low cost to all the inhabitants of the state Maharashtra. The scheme has already started in the rest of the country where these no cost LED bulbs are sold at much lower price to promote the energy saving schemes.
  • There are special arrangements are done to encourage the scheme and aware people about it. Kiosks and special DISCOM offices are placed in prominent areas to distribute the bulbs and to make people aware of the scheme.
  • The time bound for the project is set at 6 months. That means within the next 6 months nearly 3 crore LED bulbs will be distributed at lower cost to the state inhabitants.

The Ujala Yojana or Ujala Scheme was launched on 30th April this year (2016) in Bhopal.

Ujala Yojana Aim

The main aim of the scheme is to bring down the energy consumption rate. Not only the net power rate cut but also the state government aims to control the carbon emission that occurs across the state.

Subsidized LED Bulb

Under this scheme each home will get a low cost LED bulb. As people know the LED bulbs consume much lower cost than any other normal bulbs or tube-lights. The market rate for any cheap LED bulb starts from Rs. 160/- per piece and more. Less the energy consumption rate more the price of the bulb in the market. Here under this scheme people will get a bulb at the rate of Rs. 85 per unit.

Ujala Yojana Documents

The required documents are photo copy of the electricity bill, photo ID proof, and address proof. The cash advance in case of on-bill financing or the full payment in case of upfront payment for each LED.

  • The biggest benefit of the scheme is that the net power rate will bring down considerably. Also the carbon emission will be controlled by the scheme.
  • The LED bulbs will be available at much lower rates than the market rate. The power of the bulbs will be same as the normal LED bulbs but will be available at low cost.
  • More than 10 crore bulbs are already distributed across the country. Maharashtra has aimed to distribute 3 crores in next six months of time.
