Delhi Revised (Amended) Power Subsidy Scheme Electricity cost now Rs 2 per unit 2018-19 Eligibility Criteria Application

Delhi government has made amendments in the power subsidy scheme. Now all the domiciliary consumers will be required to pay a nominal charge of Rs 2 per unit of electricity if utilization reaches up to 400 units a month. All the consumers who are using 100 units per month are entitled to get a subsidy of Rs 100 per month. These changes made are expected to benedict approx. 41 lakh certified electricity connection possessors in Delhi.

Launch Details

This decision was taken by the CM of Delhi Mr Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi cabinet meeting. This will result in minimized per unit cost and eventually shrinking the electricity bill of people.

Beneficiaries (Eligibility)

The people falling under the lower middle income group and those consuming 100 units & 400 units per month of electricity units will get advantage of this scheme. This thus will prove to be beneficial step for the people who really struggle with their finances.

 Key features of the scheme:

In the month of March 2018, Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) had raised the fixed cost but minimized the per unit cost of electricity used. Here are the highlights of the scheme:

  • Government has introduced a flat rate of Rs 2 per unit on electricity on the usage of 400 units per month.A subsidy of Rs 100 shall also be given to each domestic consumer who uses up to 100 units per month, on fixed costs.
  • Electricity bill of approximately 41 lakh certified electricity connection possessors will be getting reduced.

The consequences of the scheme:

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia stated that due to these amendments made, the electricity bill will either stay unaffected or will reduce in some cases. This will be helpful for the common people of the nation.

Other details:

Discoms have an obligation of Rs 8000 crore to Delhi government possessed services like DTL and IPGCL-PPCL. Delhi government will attribute to this subsidy amount precisely to the account of this government possessed services.

For the past 2 years the government has not expanded the power excises in Delhi.

This scheme is basically to benefit the people of lower middle income group and aims at providing electricity to all. It will also result in somewhat reduced electricity bills which will be beneficial to common people. The subsidies granted will be helpful for the people with lower economic background as well as common people of the nation.
