Telangana government recently has started a new scheme for the drivers across the state. The scheme is not for all the drivers but for those who belong to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and backward classes. Also it will be applicable for the drivers belonging to minority group. Under the scheme the drivers will get financial assistance to buy their own car in much lesser interest and all. The scheme is applicable for the people who are the citizens of Telangana.

Driver Empowerment Scheme – Features

  • The driver empowerment scheme is started by the Telangana state government in the month of February 2017. It will be a loan scheme for the drivers who can now own their cars by using that loan amount.
  • The scheme is applicable to those drivers who are belonging to SC or ST or OBC class. Also the minority class that is non-Hindu drivers will get much more relaxation in the loan amount.
  • A popular cab service in India, Uber is associated with the scheme. Drivers who will buy their cars can work under the brand Uber Cab Service and earn hefty of money.
  • There is only one way to register under the scheme that is through online application. The application date is 15th February to 28th February 2017. Drivers must be registered with the scheme within this time.
  • This scheme is available across the state that is including rural and urban areas. Though the eligibility criteria is little different in these two areas but as a whole anyone who is living in the state can apply for the scheme.

Eligibility to Apply

  • To apply for the scheme one needs to have minimum criteria that are mandatory for the scheme. First of all the driver has to be passed 8th standard or equivalent.
  • Secondly the driver has to have a legal and valid driving licence (LMV) issued by RTA. The date of issuing this licence must be before or on 31st of December in the year 2015.
  • Those who have transport badge in their licence will be given little more preferences than the ones who have regular driving licence issued by RTA.
  • If the driver is from rural area then the maximum income of the family must not be more than Rs. 1.5 Lakhs for the entire family. For those who live in urban area the annual family income limit will be Rs. 2 Lakhs.
  • The candidate / drivers must belong to either of the category that is scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and backward classes. Also the special provision will be provided to the minority group as well.
  • Though the minimum qualification is given as 8th standard, candidates who have appeared / passed SSC will be given special preference under the scheme.

Documents required for the scheme

To apply for the scheme there are few documents that one needs:

  • Driving licence copy – both sides
  • Passport Size current photo
  • SSC mark sheet ( this is optional as not all the candidates have passed it)
  • PAN card copy (this is optional)

Online application

The scheme offers only online application. No offline mode of application is available. To register online one requires following few steps:

  • Step 1: Go to the official website of the scheme http://tsobmms.cgg.gov.in/ . Candidates will find the program name in the right side of the screen where other program lists are shown.
  • Step 2: Click on the “driver empowerment program” tab and you will be redirected to the online application page. Or you can simply click on the link http://tsobmms.cgg.gov.in/driverEmpowermentRegistration.do and get the form.
  • Step 3: Fill up the form accordingly. There are few mandatory tabs that one must fill. Apart from basic details like name, contact number, valid phone number and gender one has to mention the Aadhaar number, education, religion, the caste category details, sub-caste details, address details, the desired location of driving and such have to be entered in the form.
  • Step 4: In the last segment the candidates need to upload the documents in the website. The scanned copies of the documents, mentioned above, are needed to be uploaded in the web portal.

Effects of the Scheme

Back in 2015, a Muslim Uber cab driver attempt suicide as he could not earn that much money what Uber promised. This case had gone so far when Minority community had raised a lot of questions on Uber.

In 2016, the said cab service got partnered with the Tata group and helped the drivers to buy Tata models (indigo and Indica) in easy loans. But this all went under the vain when some of the communities have reported against this private car service that they are snatching their source of revenue by giving this loan service.
