AP CM Announced cancer patients will get Free treatment from 1st February 2020

YSR Free treatment Scheme for cancer patients in Andhra Pradesh from 1st February 2020 under Aarogyasri Scheme

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jaganmohan Reddy has announced that cancer patients will be offered free treatment facilities from 1st Feb. This is as per the rules of the health insurance scheme Aaroyasri that has been initiated in Andhra Pradesh on the 3rd of January 2020. As cancer treatment is becoming expensive, this help will be extended by the state government. The lower sections of the society will be benefitted from the scheme and they can easily avail the free treatment offered.

The Aarogyasri scheme has got its name from CM Jagan’s father late Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Under the scheme, initially, 1259 patients suffering from different diseases were covered. Further chief minister asked to include cancer in the list of the diseases.

With rapid increase in spread of cancer disease, the cost of its treatment is also rising. As it is becoming difficult for the middle-class families to get access to the treatment, the state government has come up with the innovative health scheme. The cost of the treatment ranges from rupees 500000 to some million depending on the severity of the case.

The present number of registered cancer cases in Andhra Pradesh counts to almost 50000 as per the news of Indian council of medical research. Prior to this, the scheme has been introduced by the YS Rajasekhar Reddy, the then CM of Andhra Pradesh to help the heart patients get suitable treatment. At that time, the scheme covered about 1059 diseases.

The present CM of the state is of the opinion that the above mentioned new scheme has come up to help the poor families deal with cancer and the like diseases. It shall cover up almost 1259 disease. Any medical expenses procuring more than rupees 1000 shall be offered for free to the patient.

The scheme benefits will be offered to the benefits in different phases from the 1st of Feb. To become eligible for the scheme benefits, the patient’s family should have annual income less than rupees 5 Lakh yearly. However, quick response code cards have been started by the CM of the state in regard to the above-said scheme. 

It has been estimated that near about 1.42 lakh families are below the annual income limit that has been set by the state government for the scheme. The eligibility cards that will be given to the candidates will be able to cover up for 2059 diseases in the state. Some of the ailments include malaria, typhoid, chikungunya and the like. Previously, under this scheme, almost 1059 diseases were covered.

Near about 150 super speciality hospitals are linked in different cities like AP, Chennai Hyderabad and Bangalore will offer medical service to the patients. Even for post-surgery care, the patients will be given rupees 225 daily.

In addition to this, it is known that the state government has been paying rupees 10000 monthly for patients with kidney problems for dialysis. The same financial help will be extended for the ones suffering from Hemophilia, Thalassemia, cell anaemia and the like. However, in relation to the scheme, the state government has asked the government hospitals to have adequate stock of 510 varieties of medicines.
